The key to any GOOD salad is the dressing! This avocado green goddess dressing is bursting with flavour and packed with wholesome ingredients that will make your taste buds sing. It's light, creamy, tangy, oil-free, and uses Greek yogurt instead of mayo.

We use simple and healthy ingredients like avocado, fresh herbs, garlic, lemon juice, and high-protein Greek yogurt. You can serve it as a salad dressing, dip for crudités and pita, or as a sauce for sandwiches.

    What is green goddess dressing?

Green goddess dressing is creamy and tangy, with a refreshing and herbaceous taste. It's typically made with mayonnaise, sour cream or Greek yogurt, fresh herbs, lemon juice, and various seasonings. It's known for its vibrant green color and its versatility as a salad dressing, dip, or sauce.

    Ingredients you’ll need

You only need 6 key ingredients to make this creamy green goddess dressing:

    • Avocado: 1 large, ripe avocado for a creamy base packed with good-for-you fats.
    • Greek Yogurt: Non-fat plain Greek yogurt replaces traditional mayonnaise for a lighter, high-protein option.
    • Lemon: Adds a bright tangy flavour.
    • Garlic: Freshly pressed garlic for optimal flavour, but pre-minced garlic works in a pinch.
    • Fresh herbs: Choose 2-3 favourites like coriander (cilantro), basil, parsley, or chives.
    • Salt + Pepper: For seasoning.
Ingredients shown to make the recipe.

How to make green goddess dressing

Add to a blender: Combine the avocado, Greek yogurt, cilantro, basil, lemon juice, garlic, salt, and pepper in a blender or food processor.

Blend: Then, blend until smooth and creamy, scraping down the sides as needed to ensure all ingredients are well incorporated. Remember, tiny flecks of herbs are totally okay!

To thin: Add ¼ cup of ice-cold water at a time until you get the consistency you want! For reference, I added ½ cup to mine.

Taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

Serve chilled and drizzle over your favorite salads, roasted vegetables, or use it as a dipping sauce for vegetable crudités.

    Tips & tricks

    • Balance creaminess and tanginess by adjusting ingredient ratios to your liking. Experiment with herbs, lemon juice, Greek yogurt, and seasonings until you reach your desired taste and consistency.
    • Versatile usage: Use this homemade, no-mayo green goddess dressing as a dip for veggies, pita, roasted potatoes, crackers, or bread. It's also perfect as a sandwich or wrap sauce and of salad dressing.
    • Enhanced flavour with resting: Let the dressing chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavours to develop.
    • Expect tiny herb flecks: This dressing is very creamy, but it’s not 100% smooth since it will still contain some small pieces of herbs. That’s normal!
    • Meal prep it: Prepare extra or store leftovers for up to 6 days. This avocado dressing is an ideal make-ahead option for convenient meal prep.
