Green beans are easily one of my all-time favourite veggies and the fact that they’re so budget-friendly when bought frozen is a huge bonus! These garlic and parmesan roasted frozen green beans are about to become your new go-to side dish. My family and I absolutely devoured them — the whole tray disappeared in one sitting!

What I love most about this recipe is how versatile it is. You can enjoy it year-round; serve them warm as a cozy holiday side, or chilled for a refreshing summer dish. They’re ridiculously easy to make too: no thawing, trimming, or rinsing required (a lifesaver when you’re cooking a big meal!). Just toss, roast, and in 30 minutes you’ve got crispy, golden green beans that taste like you spent way more effort than you did.

    Ingredients You’ll Need

    • Frozen green beans: You’ll find these in the freezer section of most supermarkets — either whole or cut into smaller pieces. Both work perfectly, though smaller pieces will roast a little faster. This recipe uses about 500g / 1 pound of frozen green beans, but don’t worry if you’re slightly over or under!
    • Olive oil: I find olive oil gives the best flavour, but you can easily swap it for another mild, nutritious oil like avocado oil if you prefer.
    • Seasonings: I love keeping it simple with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper — it lets the parmesan and sesame shine while adding just the right amount of savoury flavour.
    • Parmesan: Freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano gives the best taste and texture. For a vegan or dairy-free option, use nutritional yeast or your favourite dairy-free parmesan. You can also skip it entirely — the beans will still taste amazing!
    • Sesame seeds: A sprinkle of toasted or untoasted sesame seeds adds a subtle nutty crunch that pairs beautifully with the crispy beans. Use them as a garnish right before serving.

    Storing Leftovers

    Recipe FAQ

Can I use fresh green beans instead of frozen?

Absolutely! Fresh green beans work just as well — just note they’ll cook a little faster than frozen ones, so start checking for doneness a few minutes earlier.

Do I need to thaw the frozen green beans before roasting?

Nope! In fact, it’s better not to. Roast them straight from frozen — they’ll release less water and turn out crispier and more flavorful that way.

What seasonings can I use to flavour the green beans?

You can get creative here! Along with garlic powder, salt, and pepper, try adding onion powder, smoked paprika, Italian herbs, lemon zest, or extra parmesan for extra depth. Just make sure to toss the green beans well so the seasoning coats them evenly before roasting.

Can I cook frozen green beans in the air fryer?

Yes! The air fryer is a great option if you want them extra crispy. Simply toss the frozen green beans with oil and seasonings, then air fry at 200°C / 400°F for about 10–12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through. Sprinkle with parmesan and sesame seeds before serving.
