    Ingredients you’ll need

You will need just 7 key ingredients to make these fun pizza mummies recipe.

    • Pizza Dough: I used a good-quality store-bought dough
    • Pizza sauce: Use your favourite brand of pizza sauce to spread on the bread before adding the toppings. Marinara sauce will also work well if you have that to hand.
    • Cheese: Shredded mozzarella cheese is laid on top of the pizza sauce, and gives you those delicious cheese pulls when you take a bite.
    • Meat: You can add cooked sausage meat, salami, pepperoni or ham to make these mini pizzas extra filling. Or omit it if you want to make this recipe vegetarian.
    • Veggies: Feel free to get creative here, I used finely diced red bell pepper (capsicum), and baby spinach in mine. See more ideas below.
    • Green olives: Sliced green olives are used to make olive spiders!
    • Candy eyeballs: We finish our Halloween pizza mummies with eyeballs for that spooky touch!

Complete list of ingredients and amounts is located on the recipe card below.

    Ingredients shown.

    How to make mummy pizzas

Prepare pizza dough: Cut and roll the pizza dough into 8 rectangles. Slice both sides horizontally to make little strips.

Add toppings: Spread pizza sauce in the centre of each rectangle. Top with mozzarella cheese, salami, baby spinach, and capsicum, leaving the strips plain.

Dough sliced and spread with sauce.
    Filling the dough.

Create mummy shape: Pull the strips over to each side, gently pressing to create an X pattern, resembling a mummy's bandages.

Bake: Spray the tops with olive oil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until the dough is lightly golden.

    Pizzas on a baking sheet.

Make spiders: To make the spiders, cut an olive in half to create the "body" and slice the remaining olive across to make the "legs."

Assemble: Place the pizza mummies on a plate, dust with flour (for a more mummy-like appearance), and top with edible eyeballs for the eyes. Assemble the olive "spiders" around the mummies for a spooky effect.

Serve your pizza mummies and spiders with extra pizza sauce on the side for dipping.

    Tips and tricks

    1. Change up the veggies: This recipe is a great way to sneak in more vegetables for kids especially since they have a fun design and yummy pizza taste. But you can also try eggplant, grated zucchini, sun-dried tomatoes, red onion, mushrooms, olives, or even pineapple would make great additions too!
    2. Don’t go too crazy on the filling. You down want to over pack the filling, otherwise the criss cross will be hard to stick down.
    3. Get your kids to help! These Mummy pizzas are so fun and easy to make, and younger kids will love to help you make them. This is a great recipe to get your kids into the kitchen and have fun!
    4. Heat treat your flour: Bake 3 tablespoons of flour on a baking sheet at 350°F/ 180°C for 7- 10 minutes or until the flour reaches 160°F/ 70°C. Use a mini sift to dust on top of the cooked pizzas.

    How to store

Fridge: These delicious pizza mummies will keep well in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Freezer: Place the pizzas in a freezer-safe bag or airtight container and store them for up to 3 months. You can reheat them from frozen in the oven or in a microwave until heated through.

    Recipe FAQ

Can you make them ahead of time?

This mummy pizza recipe is best served as soon as it’s made, so the cheese filling is nice and melty. You can prep them an hour or so before you want to bake them, but don’t make them too far ahead of time or the dough may get a little soggy.

    Can you make them vegan?

If you follow a dairy-free or plant based diet, then vegan friendly mozzarella cheese and plant based pepperoni can be used.
