Who knew dark chocolate and fresh oranges tasted SO good together?!

I mean, Jaffa is one of the best flavour combinations out there. Then again most fruit and chocolate together is just incredibly good.

And these chocolate covered oranges? They’re a 12/10 and a recipe I cannot recommend enough. Think healthy Jaffa on a whole new level. You only need 2 ingredients to make them plus any crunchy toppings you have on hand. Plus they make the best after dinner dessert or quick afternoon snack!

    Ingredients you’ll need:

You only really need 2 main ingredients to make these chocolate covered oranges. The rest are optional.

    • Mandarin orange: recommended in this recipe because you can easily peel and section it (much easier than an orange). But you could also use a small orange if you'd like.
    • Chocolate: dark chocolate is best as the oranges are already quite sweet.
    • Toppings: I LOVE desiccated coconut but, crushed up nuts or cookies would be good too.
    • Sea salt: A little pinch to bring out the flavours.

How to make chocolate covered oranges

Making these chocolate covered oranges is so easy!

Peel orange: Start by peeling the orange and divide it into segments. As mentioned above, this is easiest to do with mandarin oranges.

Melt chocolate: Now, cut up a chocolate bar (or use chocolate chips) melt the chocolate in the microwave. You should do so in 30 second increments to avoid burning and stir after each session.

Chocolate coating: Now, dip half of each orange segment into the chocolate mixture and place on a plate or tray lined with baking pepper.

    FAQ

Does chocolate go well with oranges?

Absolutely yes. It's a matter of personal preference, but the sweet tart flavour of oranges pairs beautifully with rich dark chocolate.

What fruit is good dipped in chocolate?

I would say most of them are! Apart from oranges, straberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries and bananas are good dipped in chocolate.

What type of oranges should I use in this recipe?

It's best to use oranges that you can peel and section easily into clean segments. So mandarin oranges work well in this recipe.

Although an ordinary small orange will work just fine. Blood oranges also look really pretty when coated in chocolate.
